Build a DIY screen out of recycled parts for cheap

  • Published on Year ago

    DIY PerksDIY Perks

    Runtime: 9:22

Laptop users generally have to just put up with having a single main screen, but thanks to upcycling we can build a DIY portable secondary screen for laptops using recycled parts to keep the cost as low as $25! It not only performs really well, but it looks incredibly unique - it's a piece of solid industrial tech this one! Once you use two screens you can never go back!
eBay affiliate link for the control board; add the model number as shown in the video (be sure to include any suffixes like (sp) or (k1):
    US buyers: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=9&pub=5575117832&toolid=10001&campid=5337657473&customid=&icep_uq=lcd+monitor+controller+board&icep_sellerId=&icep_ex_kw=&icep_sortBy=12&icep_catId=&icep_minPrice=&icep_maxPrice=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg
    UK buyers: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=9&pub=5575117832&toolid=10001&campid=5337657473&customid=&icep_uq=lcd+monitor+controller+board&icep_sellerId=&icep_ex_kw=&icep_sortBy=12&icep_catId=&icep_minPrice=&icep_maxPrice=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229508&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg
If your screen isn't listed, most sellers of the control boards allow you to contact them directly and they will program a control board for your specific screen at no extra cost. Just send them the model number and you should be good to go.
    Vinyl Wrap:
    eBay US: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575117832&toolid=10001&campid=5337657473&customid=&icep_item=141920028984&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg
    eBay UK: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575117832&toolid=10001&campid=5337657473&customid=&icep_item=190764831163&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229508&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg

Concept for a build - a multipanel display utilising several old LCD flatscreen monitors of the same size + nVidia surround, Eyefinity or something similar to create a huge display consisting of 6 + monitors I collect old monitors I find for free and this could be interesting, I've just been too afraid to start dismantling working hardware

Hi, mine is getting very hot, too. But as long as it works, I don't care. If you want to be safe, get a small heatsink for the chip! I have a 12 V power supply and my screen (with LED backlight) does not draw more than 12 Watts.

This was a very nice and informative video, the one thing that I dont understand is that how do you bring it to perform as your second screen and just drag something from your laptop to the screen? Is it a function of the controller board itself? Please help

It's done by your OS automatically most of the time. In Windows as soon as you connect it to your laptop, it'll allow you to drag stuff from one monitor to the other. I don't know about Linux or Apple.
