Finally! A DIY slider that doesn't use tiny curtain rolls, pipes "gliding" through holes in tin cans, pulling the camera along with bits of kitchen towel or the awesome lubricating power of car wax!

In europe central heating pipe is 22mm as well, just steel tubes. 1/4 the price of copper. 10 euro for 3 meter.

awesome thing! I already have an idea for an Arduino driven Motor to pull the camera. Maybe also with an App to setup time or speed... that will make perfect timelapses once finished

I cut out my fiberboard using your temples and drilled them and the copper pipe. I used 3/4” pipe here in America. I used the rollers you suggested in the link. When trying to slide the trolley on the bars it will not fit. The rollers, when pushed together until touching, will not go on at either end. The template holes are about 1/2” (12.7mm) too narrow. The end pieces are 10.5 cm wide with the holes about 87 mm apart. The pipes are 65 mm apart at each end. What should be the measurements for the fiberboard cutouts?

That's great, but really, using copper is rubbish : use PVC pipes instead, which are cheaper, lighter, and can be easily painted in black. Copper is way too "look at me!" for camera equipment IMHO. Also, cutting curves on the platform is an absolute waste of time, and plenty of top professional sliders comes with *square* platforms - I don't know where you've heard that a non-curved platform doesn't look professional or something... smh... but otherwise, absolutely brilliant tutorial!

Better still, two half metres of 22mm roll-wrapped carbon fibre tubing can be had off ebay for £26. I also need to check if the hole spacing on SmallRig cheese plates is just right for that central section. This could be made to look a *whole* lot more professional!

Good project, but you needed to have listed what you had to buy to bring the cost in at around £30. I would say the average person would only have one tripod , so you've got to add on the cost of a second tripod and a spare tripod head ( I've seen a reasonable quality head on ebay for £18.83 from China but that's nearly two thirds of your £30 cost. There are cheap tripods from £6.50, but how sturdy I don't know ). A 2m length of copper pipe from Screwfix is £12 , brass cleaner £3, it all adds up. Whilst all the screws, washers, plugs etc. might not cost much, you will be buying them from more than one supplier. Postage has to be included in the price, even if they state free postage, and although China post may be much cheaper, I've rarely seen items costing less than £1, and each £1 adds up. So it would have been more helpful to give an itemised list with prices of ALL items required. Each person can then cross off what they already have to arrive at the cost to them. Having said all that, a £55 gimbal ( Smooth-Q you reviewed ) could give a similar effect but is more versatile.

Can you do a video on dual operation, (configuration)? A slider along with an elevator. Something small to cover an area (app) 24'' long x 12'' high. So the camera can (spot on), in any area of the 288 square inch area. Then you can patient it. Cheers.

3/4" is pronounced 'Three quarters of an inch', damn millenials - viva Brexit! Great video, will be making one of these however I'd thoroughly recommend replacing the MDF with 1/4" marine plywood which won't break if it gets dropped and is, without paint, impervious to weather.

Great vid! At some point soon, I will be making this tool. I will also be purchasing a TurnsPro digital motor to motorize this. The vid was well done, though I sure was cringing when you were drilling on that solid oak table! Scrap plywood is great for something like that. Most woodworkers have had accidents with things like this that require LOTS of fixing up afterwards!
