Casey likes to run because running produces a euphoria similar to getting high off drugs. The more you run the more 'high' you feel. So this is a healthy way to get high. I can't run due to a spinal injury but if I could I would. Looks relaxing.

Participation medals are cool, kind of a memento but we seem to have done that with everything in our culture. Competition is a good thing. We need to understand that not always being the best is ok, but looking up to the best can drive us to succeed beyond what we thought we could. When I say competition, ethics are important too. I do run on treadmill, which is the opposite of running since you don’t move!!! But in Malaysia, it’s not that easy to run in the open air... I used to do this a lot in France back in the days... I’d be very interested to know about how you train your upper body too. Because, as a runner, the upper body tends to be weak... Thanks a lot for this cool video on running Casey!

Since a past broken ankle injury years ago, i have found i can only toe run or barefoot run. I do only enough running to maintain this ability and otherwise work out daily in a gym. How about you guys try a careful, slow progression to barefoot toe running? It is not shoe dependent and even more pure. :) Another enjoyable vid btw, thanks.

For the guy asking the motivation question; motivation is bullshit, it will only let you down. You need to rely on discipline, set a schedule and stick to it, decide you’re only running at say 4-5 everyday and that’s it but that’s all you do for that half hour everyday no matter what, rain, snow or shine. Make it as much as a priority as getting to work or school in the morning.

Casey I’ve only recently started running a couple of weeks ago at the age of 31. Only running 5k so far in around 30 minutes. How do I start to chip away at that time? To answer the question about taking a long break - maybe several years - from running. I stopped for like 5 years. Didn't take long to get back into it. You just gotta start from what ever distance you can go and be consistent. General rule is don't increase distance by more than %15 every week.
