Budget $155 3D Printer - Can it possibly be any good?

In this video I give my thoughts about the Anet A8 3D Printer, which is currently for sale for just $155:
    Amazon: bit.ly/Anet3DPrinter (higher price)
eBay UK (ships locally so is roughly the same price after shipping): ebay.to/2hL5nB9
    GearBest: goo.gl/rp1UqJ ($155 with coupon code GBA8TW)

GearBest did provide me with the 3D printer, but they weren't at all involved with this video so had no influence on what was said. I have no commitments with them, future or present.

Hello. I was trying to print with this printer, but I keep getting bad prints (e.g. the base keeps getting stuck to the extruder while printing). Do you know if there's a good website to use to set up the program and printer to the correct specs? I have been having bad luck with it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

AVOID GEARBEST.COM at all cost. Worst site I have ever had to deal with. They tried to scam me and were refusing to post once I had paid for the item. Asking for extra money for postage once I already paid for postage, AND asking for proof of identity (Driving License and Credit Card Number ?????) To which I obviously refused and asked for an immediate refund.

Looks a lot better then the Q3d printers. I have a threeup and that is a rubbish printer. As for Cura, the newest version is rubbish as it has no manual controls for the printer. You can't home the printhead at all. They just assume the printhead will be magically in the right position.

He's definitely new to 3d printing, since what he said to remedy his issues isn't what he needs to do. Retraction gets rid of the zits that you're seeing on the Dragon, not an extra cooling fan. If anything, you can get the part cooling fan you have and, in the slicer, turn up the percentage it's running at.

I'd just like to ask clearly about that small dodecahedron speaker you showed at the end of the video - I'm very interested in something like that as a project (falls along several of my hobbies), and I was wondering if you created the .stl file for printing yourself, or was it something you found online? I've had little luck in the quick search I've tried, but as I'm limited on time I figure that asking is the best option right now. I'd appreciate any info on it, even if it's just tips on making it myself in CAD software. Thank you for the informative video - I'm finding myself very interested in 3D printing now, and appreciate the quality content. Carry on.

DIY Perks - Thank you for responding, and as well this quickly! I appreciate that, and will reaffirm that I would love to have a couple of those around - they're beautiful. I haven't yet begun to try using any kind of CAD software to attempt making things like this, as I'm currently limited on computer time (most if my YouTube time and responses are on my phone). I would appreciate any info you choose to offer, and I'd like to ask one more thing now that I know it is your model - did you design it on professional level software, or on one of the more accessible/free versions? Thank you again for responding, and I look forward to more content.

This printer is the best printer, once you do a few upgrades, under $1000. Must upgrades include power supply $20-$30 bucks(supplied ps will blow after about 8 hours and is a fire risk). The other must upgrade is adding a mosfet to get the large current for the heat bed off the main board. Lastly, upgrade power chords to to and from the new power supply to 14awg cable. Then you can print out parts that help with belt tension and overall frame stability and yes, a new fan blower. Once all this is done, and maybe a few extra fun but not necessary printed parts, now your printer is printing as good and exacting as a printer that is 10 times the money.

Don't Believe his lies ...I bought the anet a8 as my first 3D printer ... I waited about a month to get it ... then after assembly I did the wiring and the side of the board exploded... it was a bad board... then I bought a new one ... and it worked ... but the first time I tryed to print something the extruder Jamed and I didn't know what to do ... so now I have the shaft cleaned out but the very front nozzel is still broke ... and one of the wires just snapped so I soldered it back together.. now all I can do with my 3D printer is callibrate it ... not print with it... thanks for persuading me to buy a peace of crap

That problem with the power supply doesn't seem all so bad now that you taped the wires. Sometimes when you buy things from places like those, the quality can be kinda shaky. Let us know later on if any issues surface. Even for $155 that would be an awesome deal. I am personally waiting for the Trinus 3D printers to be released for sale. The Trinus 3D printers seem to be high quality. Sure they won't be $155 or $200 but they are by no means an unaffordable machine. How they ultimately compare once people get them and then they go on sale is another thing but I am expecting great things from the looks of their videos showing them. They are metal and not plastic framed and also have screw drives, not belts like many printers do. One more nice thing is compatibility with a variety of filaments. That all by itself can make it worth the extra cash if it turns out to be a success and not some horrible vaporware letdown as the OLO 3D printer looks to be (lucky for me I didn't pre-order that). No matter which I decide on, it would be linked to my computer so I don't have to futz around moving memory cards around. I would just find it more convenient that way.

Hello Matt, would you consider removing any references to Gearbest on your video as well as the purchase code (which is what I used to make my order) I have not received notice in the last 15 business days that my purchase is on its way and am getting requests to pay more money for shipping. I went back to the listing today and went through the checkout process again to see that they have not changed the price of the shipping charges from what i was originally charged. They are scamming buyers by offering low sale prices and then making up the difference in "extra shipping charges" I don't think that you should send people over that way. - john Hieber
