Doesn't everyone think it was actually smart to establish a village where there was a village? Why go somewhere else when there's a place that's abandoned and ready to reestablish? Adam Ruins everything come on. I guess we should all feel ashamed buying used houses instead of building our own. Lmao dumb

I feel like that was out of necessity than respect, you don't exactly want rotting disease filled bodies open to the air like that. even if they didn't know of biology back then, the smell would have been reason enough to rebury them.

To Christians, the pagans are infidels. So, digging up a heathen grave is not inappropriate to them. Now, the Christians have mostly abandoned their religion. So, what the pilgrims (more like invaders) did is now considered bad. The medieval Christians were just like today's Muslims.

They arrived in late November, so it was already a survival situation for them. Also, they resolved to compensate the natives (in full) when they got the chance. The disease spread from 1616-1619 before they even got there. Then half of the Pilgrims died. So. Doesn’t using the resources available to them , make them resourceful?

Telling the story from uk’s side and we thought they were to religious and boring as we enjoyed fun so we were like leave please or cheer up so they left to the Netherlands. In the Netherlands they felt left out so they decided they wanted somewhere that they could rule them selves so they went to your nation. Basically you are the offspring of English rejects

Let's not forget the first settlers, with all that in favour tried to employ a primitive form of communism "from each according to their means to each according to their needs", as it turned out that killed off incentive and despite having such a favourable head start the first wave of settlers suffered horribly at the eventual food scarcity. They then moved into a different model, what you produce if yours and you trade it with the others. what happened? no more famine and instead the harvests were so bountyful they had plenty to export, news made it back to the old world and new settlers came to colonize neighbouring patches of land.

They didn't mention that the villagers were wiped out by Eurasian diseases. Europeans tried settling there before a deadly epidemic swept through "New England" and were pushed out back into the sea every time. They also don't teach us that "Squanto" was a slave in Spain and made his way back only to find his homeland ravaged by European disease. He probably learned to speak English from his kidnappers who sold him in a Spanish slave-market. Read Charles Mann's "1491".

Making it sound a lot worse than it really is. Logically, why would you fell a bunch of trees and then build a town when you can use a plot of land that has already been cleared and has also been abandoned to boot. The natives couldn't live there because of disease, of which the pilgrims were probably used to. What is the problem with using that land? They dug up corn and beans, which is bad because? You can use them to grow more. Does adam know that beans and corn kernals are seeds? Why is the assumption that they ate it right there and then?

I can't get outraged that they ate the crops, if the Indians were all dead. Robbing graves is bad, but it doesn't rank very high among history's crimes. I wish that was the worst thing Anglo-Americans did.

Meh, these things are far from the most disturbing things about the Pilgrims. They were more or less run out of England for being seditious ass-hats (who had been at the lead, with Cromwell, of the rebellion that saw the beheading of their lawful monarch). They weren't in search of "religious freedom" as we think of it, but the freedom to impose their religious views on anyone who would put up with it. Any deviation from the party line was dealt with harshly. Colonists homes were subject to search by Pilgrim elders at any time and without warning. Po session of any books besides the very short authorized reading list was punishable by exposure in the stocks, public flogging and sometimes banishment. So you see, they weren't just dicks to Natives.

Look at European art and architecture pre-1492. (Really, Google Renaissance art and architecture to see the level of society Europeans were coming from.) Then look at Native American society circa 1492. The natives were literally a STONE AGE, HUNTER-GATHERER civilization that didn't even have AGRICULTURE, WRITTEN LANGUAGE, or the WHEEL. Lol. Retarded apes.

There's this fantastic live action Squanto movie that they used to show us every year of elementary school about him being taken to England by the British (the reason he could speak English and communicate well with the settlers) and the brutality he faced there. It also shows his return to North America and his horror at the British having taken over the native village Adam talks about, which was once a neighboring tribe to Squanto's own before they all died of disease while he was facing hardships in England (another big shock he got upon his return). Edit: I might be a little off about the exact story, though. Please forgive me; I haven't seen it since fifth grade.
