AT ITS WORST RATHER / Rubbish product - I had 2 cameras ripped off the wall with ease and the bad design of the product did not prevent it - DONT BUY IT!!! The service has been awful and not customer focused at all especially spending over £1,000 one would expect some service instead it has been arrogant and dismissive offering less than 6% discount - I would have expected more from a Google company

To dumb dumbs saying "it's too easy to see, steal" please think. You want these dbags to see the camera. A, you now have a video of the assholes. B, if they know they've been seen they're more likely to just leave. Better they steal or destroy the camera than the shit in your house morons. Secondly, drill a hole for the power cable, this isn't brain surgery. The camera can be placed high up, you know, higher than people can reach. YouTube is full of people who don't think before they comment

I always enjoy your projects so a big thank you for all you do. I'd like to make a small suggestion. This only applies to horizontal run lines and lines running from higher to lower locations that may encounter water. When you are running any kind of line from outside to inside and mounting the line horizontal or from higher to lower locations you should make a "Dew Loop". This is a small dip or droop in the line before it goes through the wall. This will help insure that any water that accumulates on the line will go to the lowest point of the dip you created in the line and drip down from there. This will keep the water outside where it belongs. This is also something you should do when mounting any device outside that has a line connected to it. If you make a small dip or droop in the line leading to the device this should let any water buildup on the line accumulate and drip down before reaching your device. Happy Cabling... Straight line ------ Dew Loop --__--

cabling 101, angle the pipe slightly upwards when drilling and enter the cable with a bend below the pipe. Without the drip-bend and the upward angle you will get leaks sooner or later esp on walls that catch the sun (uv might deteriorate the caulking), the rain (the cable will guide the water towards the seal) or both. love your channel ;-)

If you have a wire coming to your house, why don't you use regular UTP cable for data and power? There's plenty of devices that can shot wifi down (or hack it) so you're going to have no footage of accident happening.

There is only obe problem: Is the Camera properly secured against hackers? As some security researcher monitored the traffic of his (50 euro, not a 150 pounds, but anyway) ip camera, he found it beeing integrated into some botnet in less than 100 seconds, and two days later it was part of the mirai botnet, one of the most powerful of its kind, that just managed to take down Amazon, the Playstation store and many other big sites/services of the internet at once.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! What he didn't tell you is that all these nice features are only available if you pay a MINIMUM of $100 per year for the first camera and $50 per year for secondary and tertiary cameras for the ability to store video on the Nest cloud for download. A 4 camera setup would cost you $250 a year! After the free trial ends and you decide not to pay, your features drop down to only live viewing and 3 hours of random snapshots of motion that occur of people's backs or random movement of objects that can't be downloaded! Their ploy is that unsuspecting buyers won't bother taking down the cameras to return them after they have been installed but go ahead and pay the fee. If Nest would provide 24 to 48 hours of free cloud video storage as an option that would be more than enough time to download a video clip in the event its needed.

Year ago
Fernando Kreutz
Fernando Kreutz

Two things... 1. Does the camera stream 24 x 7 to the cloud in order to process the videos or it is smarter than that (will only stream if motion is detected and not eat away your data caps); 2. What happens when Google decides Nest should be gone?

It's always funny to see CCTV startups tell tales about innovative features, that actually have been around for 10 years or more already. About that one i can say: no solid mount? short non-detachable cable? no local video streaming? no LAN and PoE? non-compatible with absolutely everything else? Dude, that's, like, 1000 steps back in CCTV... For £159 it's just blatant robbery. Oh, and their video archive service price is way much higher than HDD price. All together, you could buy 2 IP cams, DVR and HDD for that amount.

If the cameras are wifi, that means batteries are powering them. If that is the case, well then you have periodical battery replacements, as well if you are in a cold climate in the winter that is going to kill the batteries quite quickly.

I am surprised at the negative response to this video. This is exactly how I'd prefer paid videos to be done on Youtube. It wasn't an in-your-face advert, it wasn't a nefarious "review", it was an actually useful video for a product that felt distinct yet familiar.

I'm leaving a dislike not because this is a commissioned video, but because I'm 100% sure there's _intentional_ backdoors (and maybe unintentional security bugs) in these out-of-the-box IoT solutions. Making one yourself can give you more peace of mind (and pride, for being actual DIY).

The best way to secure a camera so it cannot be tampered with is to mount it high, out of reach. This means of course the speaker on Nest cam might be ineffective. If I was Nest I would add a socket to the camera allowing an external speaker and sell an external speaker and fitting kit or sell a camera V2 or 'pro' with this functionality.
